Dr. Alan Matthew Downen, MD

Dr. Matt Downen was born and raised in McLeansboro, Illinois, where his early interest in medicine and service took root. He earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and completed his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Kansas in Wichita.

Since beginning his medical career in 2016, Dr. Downen has served as a board-certified Hospitalist with the American Board of Family Medicine and a valued member of Premier Hospitalists of Kansas. His clinical specialties include Critical Care Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Care, reflecting a broad commitment to compassionate, patient-focused care across the continuum of health.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Downen is deeply involved in global health initiatives. He serves as Medical Director for Serve Haiti, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving access to healthcare and supporting sustainable medical programs in underserved communities. His work combines medical expertise with a spirit of service and advocacy for global health equity.

When not practicing medicine, Dr. Downen enjoys spending time with his wife, Alyssa, their daughter and son, and their two rescue dogs. His life reflects a balance of professional excellence, humanitarian service, and a deep commitment to family and community.
